The Tender Tike Story
Once upon a time, a little boy and girl shared a room with a very curious little bear. This cuddly and fluffy bear’s name was Tender Tike and he liked to play and have fun all day long. But nighttime was his favorite time of all, for each night, the little boy and girl were told stories from a very special book.
Tender Tike cuddled up all snuggly on his pillow and listened to stories of amazing adventures and mighty miracles! There were stories about a sneaky snake, a flaming chariot of fire, and a giant with a rumbling voice like thunder! He heard about a baby in a manger, an old wooden cross and a special place called Heaven. Tender Tike wondered what it would be like to see such amazing things? The curious little bear wanted to know more about God and His Son’s perfect love. As he drifted off to sleepy-time-land, little Tender Tike began to dream about his adventures through the Bible and his journey to find … Jesus.
The Tender Tike Message
The purpose of Tender Tike’s Amazing Bible Journey is to share the wonderful stories of the Bible to children in a warm, whimsical way and stir their imaginations as they learn valuable lessons and truths from the Word of God.
Tender Tike’s Amazing Bible Journey allows the reader to see the struggles, fears, and doubts Bible heroes faced, while also seeing their great faith. As children follow Tender Tike’s journeys, they will learn about making choices and the principles of obedience, trust, compassion, and faith. They will also learn that pride, lying, and selfishness are choices that make God sad.
My hope is that each story, illustration, and Bible verse will bring you closer to the truth of who Jesus is and the mercy, grace, and love He has for all. Just as Tender Tike learns about Jesus and His precious love, my prayer for everyone who reads and enjoys Tender Tike’s Amazing Bible Journey is that you will once again be touched with the excitement and joy of imagination and see that the gift of salvation is only a prayer away, made possible through the precious love that Jesus so freely gives. I pray your heart will be touched as you join Tender Tike on his journey to find Jesus.

Jacob took a deep breath and lied, “I AM ESAU.” Immediately, Jacob felt sad. Guilt swept over him like a dark, heavy blanket. What was he doing? He loved his father. This was WRONG! But before Jacob could speak, the deed was done. Isaac had given him the blessing!
When Jesus finished preaching, He told Simon, “Toss your net into the water.” Simon answered, “But we fished for hours and didn’t catch anything. Not one single fish!” Then Jesus said, “Simon, throw out your net.”

Lori Templet
With a background in illustrative and visual art, Lori has enjoyed freelance and private commission work throughout the years. Her work consist of various mediums and themes ranging from museum commissions of western art, private commissions for wildlife and landscape paintings to book covers and curriculum for pastors and churches. Lori was the recipient of the Midwest On My Own Time Art Show’s “Best of Show” for her acrylic painting “Night Stalker and “Alternate Best of Show” in ink rendering and pencil illustration.
Lori created her fuzzy little character “Tender Tike” in 1981 and over the years has continued developing his character. Tender Tike’s illustrations were originally rendered in oil and acrylics but integrated to the current mediums of water-soluble colored pencils, inks, ink washes and acrylics. Lori enjoys being able to tell a story not only through the use of the written word, but by the numerous, colorful illustrations, and emotions that characterize little Tender Tike. Being able to stimulate someone’s imagination and allow the individual to experience a childlike faith and excitement is the joy that defines the very essence and personality of Tender Tike’s character.
